Chelsea striker Sam Kerr has made history as the first female player to appear on the global cover of a FIFA video game.
Revealed in a tweet on 18 July, EA Sports FIFA wrote: “Two phenomenal forces up front. One ultimate strike partnership.”
Celebrating the news on Instagram, Kerr said: “From playing as a kid, to being in the game and now on the global cover! It’s a dream come true..”
She is pictured alongside French striker Kylian Mbappé on the cover of FIFA 23.
Both players are wearing their club kits, Chelsea for Kerr and Paris St Germain for Mbappé.
Kerr has scored 56 goals in 108 appearances for Australia and the cover is being viewed as a big step forward for women’s football.
It is the 30th edition of the game and will be the last FIFA branded game by EA Sports as the partnership between the two is coming to an end.
