Elliot Page has shared his glee with his new passport photo after sharing the image with his six million Instagram followers (3 July).
The photo, which is presumably the first passport photo to represent his gender identity since he came out as transgender, shows Page with his hair cut short wearing a black t-shirt and silver chain while gazing down the camera lens.
“Never thought I would love a passport photo,” The Umbrella Academy star wrote in the caption.
The image has amassed 1.4 million likes with fans and celebrities sharing their support in the comments.
Reed Morano, director of The Rhythm Section, called it “the best passport photo I’ve seen,” whilst Jeff King, executive producer of The Umbrella Academy commented, “That’s a keeper.”
After coming out in December 2020, the actor has continued to speak out about his identity. Page shared that he believed being open about his journey was his “duty” given the climate we are living in.
Explaining his decision to come out in a 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Page said: “For me, in this time we’re in right now and especially with this horrible backlash we’re seeing towards trans people, particularly trans youth, it really felt imperative to do so.”
The actor also praised The Umbrella Academy for how it handled the transition of Page’s character in season three of the show.
“I think one of the most special things about this is how it’s handled. It’s not void of emotional moments with the siblings, of course. I think they’re each individually special and in relation to their specific relationship,” Page told The Hollywood Reporter.
Page also shared his views on the importance of seeing his story represented through the character he plays in the series, saying: “We don’t see that when we’re not in control of our stories a lot of the time. So it felt really special.”
Meanwhile, showrunner Steve Blackman shared his pride in how the show incorporated the storyline into the plot.
“We wanted it to not be the story of the season. We wanted it to be a story, or part of the story,” Blackman shared with TV Line.
