We’ve never heard this one before…
While homophobia is never OK, editor-in-chief of Nylon magazine Gabrielle Korn managed to find some humour after a former girlfriend’s mother tried to persuade her daughter to not be a lesbian.
“I dated a girl in college whose mum tried to talk her out of being gay by telling her she’d have to go through life without someone to open jars for her,” she wrote.
“At the time it was upsetting but in hindsight I kind of love that jar opening was the only use for men she could think of.”

While we agree that it’s not tremendous that her mum didn’t want her daughter to be gay, we can’t help but laugh at the reasoning behind it, as it’s like nothing we’ve ever heard before.
“For the record everyone, I have been opening my own jars just fine for 11 years,” added Gabrielle, proving to her former girlfriend’s mother that women really don’t need men in their lives.
While some on Twitter suggested that men had another use – reaching for things high up – Gabrielle had the perfect response for them, too.
“I’m glad so many of you are bringing up *reaching for things that are high up* as a use,” she responded.
Korn responded: “Last week my girlfriend picked me up so I could grab a wine bottle that had rolled to the back of the top of the fridge. I’m 5’4 and she’s 5’7 and together we’re unstoppable.”
