American Idol star David Archuleta has opened up about his life after coming out.
Back in 2021, the 31-year-old singer came out as part of the LGBTQ+ community in a lengthy Instagram post.
“I’ve been open to myself and my close family for some years now that I am not sure about my own sexuality,” he said.
“I came out in 2014 as gay to my family. But then I had similar feelings for both genders, so maybe a spectrum of bisexual.”
Archuleta also discussed the challenging aspects of navigating his sexuality and religious beliefs as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
“For me to find peace, the reality has been to accept both are real things I experience and make who I am,” he explained.
Over the last year, Archuleta has kept fans updated regarding his coming out journey – including his relationship with the aforementioned religious group.
In a recent interview with Good Morning America, the Crush singer revealed that he had taken a step back from the Mormon church.
“I have taken a step away. I’ve had a faith crisis this year, so I’ve had to deconstruct everything,” he explained.

Archuleta went on to say that his decision stemmed from a meeting with one of the church’s leaders – who visited the singer after he publically came out.
“I think three times in that conversation, he said, ‘Well, maybe we just need to find you a good girl. Maybe you can find a good girl.’ And I’m like, ‘That’s not the solution,” he continued.
“I said, ‘Can you see why I’m thinking so much? Because I’m trying everything, I can find a way to still belong here because this has meant so much to me.”
Archuleta also revealed that before embracing his sexuality, he almost married three different women and even attempted to take his own life due to his internal struggle.
“You’re trying to decide what’s worse? Is it worse for this feeling of desiring men to finally explode where I can’t control it anymore, and you look at it as if that’s Satan trying to take over my soul? Or is it better for me to end my life and, that way, I’m free from that temptation,” he said.
While he experienced painful inner turmoil regarding his sexuality, Archuleta told the news outlet that he has now embraced his identity as a queer man fully.
“It got to a point where I realised, you know what, there’s something in me telling me that there’s value to me still living, even if I was queer,” he added.
