Upcoming queer rapper Keanan has dropped a new retro-inspired summer anthem, ‘Butterscotch’, that sees him confidently lean into a new sound.
The funk-pop track is a departure from his more bass-heavy singles, such as ‘Country Boy’ and ‘Mine’.
‘Butterscotch’ sees Keanan put his unique spin on the funk revival, bringing his playful rapping over a bouncy baseline and groovy horns.
The upcoming rapper explores self-confidence, using smooth wordplay to simultaneously reassure his audience and recognise his own worth. Keanan manages a track that is both cheeky and empowering, while keeping his personality at the forefront.
The Cheltenham-born artist is one of just four unsigned artists selected for the Coca-Cola and GAY TIMES “Breakthrough” campaign. With gigs at Brighton Pride, Boardmasters, All Points East, Witcombe Festival and Electric Picnic, the summer is a busy one for Keanan.

Exhibit Green, his second EP, earned him special ‘spotlight’ recognition from BBC Radio 1Xtra and BBC Introducing, cementing him as an emerging artist to watch out for over the next year.
