Attention, Sam Smith fans! The beloved talent has shared an update regarding their vocal cord injury.
Back in May, the “Stay With Me” singer surprised fans when they abruptly ended their Manchester concert after only singing four songs.
Following their shocking departure, Smith took to their social media channels to explain the incident.
“Today in soundcheck, I felt fine and was so excited to give Manchester an amazing show tonight, with a special surprise at the end,” they wrote.
“During my third song, I noticed something wrong with my voice. I prayed it was just my voice waking up for the show, but into the fourth song, I could feel something was really wrong.”
The Grammy winner added that they were left “heartbroken” over not being “able to finish the show”.
In addition to cancelling their Manchester show, Smith’s vocal cord injury forced them to back out of their performances in Birmingham and Glasgow.
Fortunately for fans, the Unholy singer’s absence from the stage is set to end very soon.
On 3 June, Smith took to Instagram to share a positive update after their recent doctor’s visit.
“Hi everyone. Hope this video finds you well, safe and healthy. I just wanted to send you guys a little video to keep you updated with how it’s been going with my voice,” they said.

“I’ve just come back from the doctors today, and it [was] actually really, really positive news. My vocal cords are healing, and after a week of vocal rest, it’s looking good… and it’s looking like I’m gonna be okay for the rest of the shows.”
After thanking their fans for sending supportive messages and healing energy, Smith apologised to the people who were unable to attend their concert due to the aforementioned cancellations.
“I’m still and will always be so sorry to everyone who missed out on the show. These things are completely out of my control… and I’ll be doing everything I can to get back to you guys as soon as I can and when we can,” they added.
Smith’s recent health update comes a few days before the release of their brand new track Vulgar featuring pop music royalty and LGBTQ+ icon Madonna.
On Thursday (1 June), the two music talents teased the highly anticipated track on their respective TikTok accounts.
“Vulgar is beautiful,” Smith wrote alongside a video of them on a rooftop lip-syncing the sure-to-be iconic pop anthem.
