Ben Platt has revealed the status of his Netflix series The Politician.

Between 2019 and 2020, the Emmy, Tony and Grammy-winning actor memorably starred in the “chaotic” dramedy as Payton Hobart, an ambitious 20-something politician who is determined to become the President of the United States.

While The Politician was met with mixed reviews from critics, it earned eight Primetime Emmy Award nominations and two Golden Globe nominations – including Best Actor for Platt – and gained a passionate fanbase as a result of its ensemble cast and refreshing LGBTQIA+ representation.

In 2020, creator Ryan Murphy revealed that the series will come to an end with its third season, which would film years later so Platt can “get a little bit older for his final race”, but details ever since have been scarce.

Regrettably, Platt had no new information to share on a third season in a cover interview with GAY TIMES.

“No, I wish I knew. I would always be game. I’m still very close with lots of folks on the show, so I know everyone would be too,” he said.

“Ryan always mentioned that, someday, he’d want to wait until we got older and do it again – and about 112 different things! So, if he ever decides he wants to come back to it, I would love to do it.

“But truly, I have as much information as you do. Listen, it’s not over until Ryan decides it is. We’ll see!”

The Politician also starred Zoey Deutch, Lucy Boynton, Bob Balaban, Julia Schlaepfer, Laura Dreyfuss, Theo Germaine, Rahne Jones, Jessica Lange, Gwyneth Paltrow, Judith Light and Bette Midler.

It also served as the breakout role for David Corenswet (Pearl, Twisters, We Own This City), who has been cast as Clark Kent/Superman in the new DC Universe franchise.

“Isn’t that fun? I got to kiss Superman,” Platt told GAY TIMES.

Over the past year, Platt has been busy with a leading role in the acclaimed queer comedy Theatre Camp and the release of his third studio album Honeymind, which received critical acclaim.

In May, he started a three-week residency at Broadway’s legendary Palace Theatre, where he was joined by icons such as Kacey Musgraves, Kristin Chenoweth, Leslie Odom Jr., Kristen Bell, Cynthia Erivo, Nicole Scherzinger, Jennifer Hudson and Sam Smith.

“Immediately after” completing his current U.S. tour, Platt will continue planning his wedding to fellow actor and Broadway star Noah Galvin.
