Nathan Stewart-Jarrett and Kevin Vidal’s characters are loved up in these exclusive images from Disney Plus’ Culprits.
Premiering 8 November on the streamer in the UK, the heist drama will have a queer Black family at the forefront with their respective characters Joe and Jules.
The official synopsis reads: “Joe Petrus is living the American dream: a fiancé to Jules, dad to Frankie and Bud, and starting his own business in a sleepy suburban town. But unbeknownst to his family, Joe has a secret.
“Three years ago, he was recruited by notorious British criminal Dianne Harewood to join her crew and take part in a high-stakes crime that promised to make Joe rich and provide him with a brand-new life. And now Joe’s dangerous past is about to catch up with him.
“When a killer starts targeting the crew behind the crime, Joe realises that the only way to keep his family safe is to return to London, make contact with his old gang, and track down Dianne.”
Culprits is based on Richard Brewer and Gary Phillips’ novel The Anthology Culprits: The Heist Was Only The Beginning.
Stewart-Jarrett is best-known for his role as Curtis Donovan in E4’s cult sci-fi series Misfits, as well as Ian in Channel 4’s Utopia. He has since starred in the supernatural slasher Candyman (2021) and Femme (2023), the latter of which sees him play a drag queen who wishes to enact revenge on his attacker.
Additional cast members include Gemma Arterton (Vita & Virginia), Eddie Izzard (Valkyrie), Kirby (The Sandman), Niamh Algar (Calm with Horses), Kamel El Basha (The Insult), Tara Abboud (Rebel) and Ned Dennehy (Peaky Blinders).
The series hails from J Blakeson, director of the neo-noir film The Disappearance of Alice Creed (2009) – also starring Arterton – and the satirical black comedy I Care a Lot (2020).
