GAY TIMES teamed up with London’s most well-known LGBTQ+ sexual health clinics to show you how easy it is to get checked.
Dean Street Express, the sister clinic to 56 Dean Street, specialises in reducing infections and promoting sexual wellbeing amongst the LGBTQ+ community.
It makes the process of getting a sexual health screening as simple as it could possibly be, with patients able to book an appointment on the website or by phone.
Once at the clinic, you are able to talk to a clinician about any concerns you may have, as well as taking the necessary tests.
With monkeypox dominating a lot of the discussion surrounding sexual wellbeing at the moment, it is more important than ever to get checked for things like HIV, chlamydia and gonorrhoea.
Doing so takes a matter of minutes at Dean Street Express, with a urine sample, swabs of the throat and rectum and a small blood test being all that is required of you.
It is important to note that a test may miss an infection that has been caught very recently, which is referred to as a ‘window period’.
These are as follows:
- Gonorrhoea: two weeks
- Chlamydia: two weeks
- HIV: six weeks
- Syphilis: up to three months
Dean Street Express will treat anyone right away if they have been exposed to an infection, as well as those who test positive for anything.
Despite being based in Soho, the clinic offers free home testing for STIs which can be ordered online here and discreetly delivered to your door.
