Billy Eichner and Luke Macfarlane have revealed the hilarious “premise” for a potential Bros sequel.
Speaking with GAY TIMES, the stars joked that country singer Garth Brooks will play a more prominent role if a new film is greenlit.
“Garth and Luke and me are gonna be in a throuple in the sequel,” said Billy, with Luke describing a second Bros adventure as a “road trip movie” in which their characters, Bobby and Aaron, respectively, drive the star “back from Tennessee to Oklahoma”.
“That’s good, I like that,” added Billy. “See? There’s your premise for the Bros sequel.”
In Bros, Aaron reveals that he’s a huge fan of country music, particularly Garth. Bobby later writes an original song for Aaron in the style of the – fun fact incoming – GLAAD Award winner, titled Love Is Not Love, and performs it at the opening of the National LGBTQ+ History Museum in Manhattan.
Billy told GAY TIMES that he would “love to hear” what Garth thinks of the film and his involvement in the narrative. Luke said: “He’s definitely an ally and I love him in real life, actually. That scene was cut from a real conversation we had.”
As for their favourite scenes to shoot, Luke revealed: “I had a lot of fun doing the sex scenes, they were really wild and we sort of discovered things on the day.
“We had a set of ideas about things we were gonna do, but we just kind of found stuff like the foot in the mouth.”
According to the Brothers & Sisters star, the intimate scenes went on for a “very long time” but he felt pressure as a performer to give the cast and crew “more and more stuff”, with Billy describing the intimate scenes as “weirdly liberating”.
The first-ever gay rom-com from a major studio, Bros follows Bobby, the host of a New York podcast and radio show, as he accepts a position as a curator for the aforementioned museum and falls for Aaron, a handsome “Tom Brady”-esque gay.
Directed by Nicholas Stoller, Bros is notable for featuring a principal LGBTQ+ cast with supporting performances from Ts Madison, Monica Raymund, Guillermo Díaz, Amanda Bearse, Jim Rash, Bowen Yang, Miss Lawrence, Harvey Fierstein, Eve Lindley, Symone and Dot-Marie Jones.
