Red, White & Royal Blue fans: this one’s for you.
GAY TIMES has the first exclusive look at the trailer for Sky Originals’ Mary & George, and it features Nicholas Galitzine in various spicy sequences as he attempts to seduce King James VI of Scotland and I of England (Tony Curran).
Coming to Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW in 2024, the upcoming series is inspired by the “outrageous true story” of Mary Villiers, played by Academy Award winner Julianne Moore, who “moulded her beautiful and charismatic son” George (Galitzine) to become King James’ “all-powerful lover”.
The official synopsis reads: “Through outrageous scheming, the pair rose from humble beginnings to become the richest, most titled and influential players the English court had ever seen, and the King’s most trusted advisors.
“And with England’s place on the world stage under threat from a Spanish invasion and rioters taking to the streets to denounce the King, the stakes could not have been higher.
“Prepared to stop at nothing and armed with her ruthless political steel, Mary married her way up the ranks, bribed politicians, colluded with criminals and clawed her way into the heart of the Establishment, making it her own.”
Mary & George is described as an “audacious historical psychodrama about a treacherous mother and son who schemed, seduced and killed to conquer the Court of England and the bed of its King”.
The series boasts an ensemble cast, with supporting players such as: Nichola Walker (The Split), Niamh Algar (The Wonder), Trine Dyrholm (The Legacy), Sean Gilder (Slow Horses), Adrian Rawlins (Chernobyl), Mark O’Halloran (The Miracle Club), Laurie Davidson (Guilty Party), Samuel Blenkin (Atlanta) and Jacob McCarthy (SAS: Rogue Heroes).
More star power incoming: Tom Victor (Consent), Alice Grant (Anthem at Almeida Theatre), Amelia Gething (Emily), Mirren Mack (The Nest), Rina Mahoney (Happy Valley) and Simon Russell Beale (The Death of Stalin).
Written by acclaimed playwright DC Moore (Killing Eve), Mary & George is based on the non-fiction book The King’s Assassin by Benjamin Woolley. Oliver Hermanus (Living) serves as lead director alongside second and third block directors Alex Winckler (Somewhere Boy) and Florian Cossen (The Empress).

Galitzine received praise earlier this year for his role in Red, White & Royal Blue.
Upon release, the beloved film was a huge success for Prime Video, becoming the number-one movie worldwide on the streamer and its third most successful rom-com ever.
Based on Casey McQuiston’s acclaimed novel of the same name, Red, White & Royal Blue follows the romance between Alex (Taylor Zakhar Perez), the son of America’s first female president (Uma Thurman), and Henry (Galitzine), a British prince.
The cast also includes Clifton Collins Jr., Sarah Shahi, Rachel Hilson, Stephen Fry, Ellie Bamber, Thomas Flynn, Malcolm Atobrah, Akshay Khanna, Sharon D Clarke, Aneesh Sheth and Juan Castano.
Ever since the film’s release, fans – and us – have clamoured for a sequel. When we spoke to director Matthew Lopez, he said he’s open to returning for a follow-up “if it’s successful and people want more”.
