Some people know it’s the holiday season because of the festive lights, others because Mariah Carey becomes inescapable. No, really, she’s everywhere. But for fans of Jinkx Monsoon and BenDeLaCreme, this time of year can only mean one thing – the return of the beloved Jinkx & DeLa Holiday Show. What was once a small series of performances has turned into an epic annual tradition for the Drag Race duo, who this year have the camp dial amped all the way up in what’s undoubtedly their biggest – and best – production yet.
From bedazzled lewks to witty one-liners, there are certain things you can always expect from Jinkx and DeLa when they take to the stage together. Their performance at the London Palladium on 13 November is no different, but this time puts a fresh perspective on the Holiday Show. Instead of going head to head over their differing views on the festivities that take place this time of year, Jinkx and DeLa are united against a common enemy: the show itself. The queens then attempt to escape the ‘monster’ they’ve created so they can enjoy a well-deserved vacation, only to be met with a packed out crowd of onlookers at every turn.
The plot is as ridiculous as it is bizarre, but that’s part of The Jinkx & DeLa Holiday Show’s charm – it shouldn’t have to make sense. Why is Jinkx unable to remember where she was when DeLa was performing a solo number? Why do the dancers sound like Ghostface when talking to the queens? Were the events that occurred during the six month time jump real? It doesn’t matter, because what Jinkx and DeLa know how to do is provide an escape for those in attendance which, now more than ever, is the greatest gift they can give an audience in need of a good time.
So, for those concerned that The Jinkx & DeLa Holiday Show may be running out of steam several years in, know that your fears are unwarranted. The new tour is fresh, hilarious and will more than satisfy both longtime fans and those just wanting to see a performance. Co-created and co-written by both Jinkx and DeLa, the latter of which is also the director, the show is a testament to their talent both as a duo and individuals and is something you simply cannot miss.
There are still tickets to some of the remaining dates available here.
