Pixie Polite has unleashed the music video for her empowering debut anthem Give It To Ya.
Coinciding with the star’s elimination on Drag Race UK, Give It To Ya is a flirtatious bop about Pixie’s personal experiences with body positivity in the “world of LGBTQ+ dating” and “owning your sense of confidence and sexiness”.
“It’s essentially a tale about knowing your worth. Yes, maybe you will flirt with that guy over there if you want, but he’s gonna have to prove to you he’s worth it!” she tells GAY TIMES.
“[Give It To Ya] is a feel good pop banger, telling the girls all about the guy who’s trying really hard to get your attention. For me the vibe of the song is a true reflection of me and my drag – body confident, camp and fun.”
Pixie says she wanted the genre of her debut single to be catchy, bubblegum pop to reflect her ethos in drag, which “has always been about having a fun time and entertaining people.”
The star continues: “My drag style has always had an edge of being influenced by vintage 60s styling, but with a modern, curvaceous twist.
“Meghan Trainor has always been a big inspiration, in this regard, and her sound has definitely influenced the song, as well as artists like Lizzo and Alesha Dixon. Pure pop bangers with a bit of humour behind it! What’s not to love?”
The Brighton entertainer memorably showcased her vocals on the second episode of Drag Race UK season four. As a member of Queens of the Bone Age, Pixie performed at the first-ever ‘Yaas-tonbury Festival’ and won a RuPeter Badge in the process.
“I have always loved to sing, and in fact wrote a lot of songs as a teenager in a rock band… don’t ask!” she reveals.
“Music is something I love to do and prior to recording this song, I hadn’t much experience in the recording studio, but I have loved the process.
“Being a drag pop star is definitely something I have in me, having spent most of my drag career in girl group The Vixens with Tia Kofi and Woe Addams, so there are definitely a few more pop hits coming your way in the future!”
Give It To Ya is now available on iTunes and all streaming platforms.
