The third episode of UK Black Pride: A Time Capsule Podcast, hosted by Lady Phyll, has arrived.
In this episode, the discussion gets to the heart of why protest is still important for LGBTQ+ people and their allies in 2022.
UK Black Pride isn’t just a home and a celebration for LGBTQ+ Black people and people of colour – it’s also an annual, in-person protest.
In this episode, Lady Phyll speaks to Lewis Corner, GAY TIMES’ Editorial Director, about the value of protesting and what it can achieve for LGBTQ+ people globally.
“I think next in the fight for equality, we have to really, really take a look at ourselves as a community, there has been an attempt to fracture our community, particularly within British media, [and] I think particularly amongst white LGBTQ people,” he said.
“There needs to be a reckoning with our past and the legacy of a British Empire that has imposed anti LGBTQ laws and sentiments particularly across the Commonwealth.”
The past two episodes have discussed how UK Black Pride first was founded and why a supportive family, or chosen family, is so important to queer people and how UKBP helps aid that need.
