Prime Video’s beloved queer-inclusive TV series A League of Their Own has been cancelled.
On 18 August, Deadline revealed that the previously green-lit second season would no longer move forward at the streamer.
While Prime Video refrained from making an official announcement, various reports have said the decision stemmed from the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA stikes.
In a statement on Instagram, the series’ co-creator Abbi Jacobson confirmed the dishearting cancellation news while also slamming the strike rumours.
“What luck I have had to get to tell these stories and play this character I love so much. What a rare thing in life. And so I am sad today,” she wrote.
“To blame this cancellation on the strike, (which is an essential fight for fair wages, protections and working conditions, etc…) is bullshit and cowardly.
“But this post isn’t about all that. About all the ways this show has been put through the ringer. Not today.”
Towards the end of her heartfelt post, the Disenchanted star expressed how lucky she was to make the show with “so many incredibly talented artists and actors and writers and crew”.
“This post here is about… a show I’m so proud of. Filled to the brim with stories worth telling. Full of so much heart and soul and value,” she added.

Since the news was announced, fans have flocked to social media to express their disappointment over the show’s cancellation.
One fan wrote: “Streaming services fail to understand, how important shows like A League of Their Own is. We probably won’t see an ensemble show with majority queer leads for long time or ever again.”
Another viewer tweeted: “A League of Their Own was one of the rare shows on tv with several lesbian and queer characters as leads, explored vital issues from gender identity to racism and didn’t shy away from dark realities but also dared to let the characters love and live and thrive. I’m heartbroken.”
Created by the Broad City alum alongside Will Graham, the beloved series was a reimagining of the 1992 sports comedy-drama of the same name, which tells a fictionalised account of the real-life All-American Girls Professional Baseball League.
Upon its release, A League of Their Own was lauded for the cast’s performances and for honouring the behind-the-scenes queerness of the female-led league – something the Penny Marshall-directed original failed to achieve.
While the show received heaps of praise, it took months of negotiating between Graham, Jacobson and Sony Pictures Television to get a second season – which would have also served as its last outing.
A League of Their Own now joins Chloë Grace Moretz’s series The Peripheral, a Prime Video series that was cancelled after previously being renewed for a second season.
