And Just Like That creator revealed that Samantha Jones will be included in the show’s second season.
If you’re a fan of the classic 90s series Sex and the City, then chances are you’ve watched the HBO max reboot, And Just Like That.
In the series’ first season, viewers were reacquainted with pop culture’s favourite New York ladies, Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda Hobbs (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte York (Kristen Davis), as they navigated new relationships, friendships and heartaches in their 50s.
While most of the original cast returned, Kim Cattrall and her fan-favourite character Samantha Jones were absent from the series.
But even though the Queer As Folk actress didn’t make a visible appearance in the show, her character played a huge part in Carrie’s storyline.
At the start of the series, viewers discovered that Carrie and Samantha had a falling out. As the show progressed, tender moments between the two former best friends occurred via text message.
This all led to the season one finale, which featured Carrie heading back to Paris to spread the ashes of Mr Big in the Seine River. After the bittersweet moment, she texted Samantha, who moved to London, to meet for drinks.
In a recent interview with Variety, Michael Patrick King revealed that fans would see more text interactions between Carrie and Samantha in season two.
The 2 Broke Girls co-creator also opened up about what went down between the two friends at the end of season one.
“It’s very funny, because every single one of the writers has a different version of what happened during that conversation. So, I think there was some champagne,” he said.

“I think that there was a grownup back and forth, and a love affair that they realised that something’s more important than being afraid to heal.
“I’m sure they had a great night. To me, they had a great night and things became resolved. Once Carrie let go of an old, old love, one of her current loves came back in.”
While fans can look forward to the virtual reconciliation between Carrie and Samantha, the chances of Catrall returning to the beloved franchise are slim to none.
In a May interview with Variety, the How I Met Your Father star gave further insight into why she has no plans of appearing in the reboot.
“It’s a great wisdom to know when enough is enough. I also didn’t want to compromise what the show was to me,” she explained.
Even though she has no interest in returning to her iconic role of Samantha Jones, the 65-year-old actress expressed her gratitude for her time with the beloved character.
“This feels like an echo of the past. Other than the really wonderful feeling of – it’s rare in my business – people wanting more, especially at 65. This feels powerful, that I’ve left something behind that I’m so proud of,” she said.
