Barbie Ferreira confirmed that she has quit Euphoria ahead of its third season in an emotional statement to fans on 24 August.
She has played Kat Hernandez in the HBO series since it began in 2019.
“After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character Kat, I’m having to say a very teary-eyed goodbye,” Ferreira wrote in her message.
“I hope many of you could see yourself in her like I did and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today. I put all my care and love into her and I hope you guys could feel it. Love you Katherine Hernandez.”
Her statement was shared alongside fan art drawn by co-star Hunter Schafer.
During her time on the first season of Euphoria, Ferreira’s character navigated her first romantic relationship and engaged in online sex work.
By the second, she was predominantly seen supporting her friends in the dramas they were experiencing.
Since confirmation of Ferreira’s exit from the show, fans have been reacting to the news online.
“Going to pretend that Barbie Ferreira isn’t leaving Euphoria,” one wrote on Twitter. “Going to pretend that Euphoria was just a one season special that purposefully leaves things open-ended and unresolved in like an art-hoe kinda way.”
Another added: “Barbie Ferreira being like “not returning to euphoria bye” on her instagram story is wild.”
A third said: “Not Barbie Ferreira leaving Euphoria…………..bye I don’t care ab the series now that they cut off the best character\actress from the cast.”
The release date for Euphoria’s third season is yet to be confirmed.
