HBO has released another teaser for its upcoming series, The Idol, and it’s set to feature more LGBTQ+ talent.
Over the last few months, TV viewers have been clamouring to watch the upcoming series – created by singer Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye and Euphoria’s Sam Levinson.
The show is set to follow the turbulent relationship between rising pop star Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp) and a Los Angeles-based club owner (The Weeknd), who also happens to be the leader of a cult.
On 21 August, the popular cable network released the second teaser trailer for the highly-anticipated series, featuring appearances from Schitt’s Creek star Dan Levy and Assassination Nation’s Hari Nef.
At the start of the clip, we see a mysterious character answer their cellphone before saying “Hello Angel” to an unknown caller.
The trailer then revs it up a notch by adding an electric guitar production and showcasing new footage of Depp’s character and her rise to superstardom.
Towards the middle of the teaser, Levy and Nef appear alongside actor Jane Adams as music industry executives who are seemingly in charge of Jocelyn’s career.
After Depp’s character is done filming a provocative dance routine, Adams’s character says, “That’s sex,” before Levy’s character responds, “This is sex?”
“That’s sex. That’s what we’re selling,” Adams adds.
The end of the teaser then highlights the series’ star-studded ensemble, including Troye Sivan, Blackpink’s Jennie Ruby Jane, Suzanna Son, Moses Sumney, Eli Roth, and Rachel Sennott.
Since starting production, The Idol has faced significant changes regarding its crew and the show’s creative direction.
Back in April, the show’s first director Amy Seimetz exited the series and was replaced by Levinson shortly after, as reported by Variety.
“The Idol’s creative team continues to build, refine, and evolve their vision for the show, and they have aligned on a new creative direction,” HBO said in a statement.
“The production will be adjusting its cast and crew accordingly to best serve this new approach to the series. We look forward to sharing more information soon.”
Due to Seimetz’s sudden departure, the series was subjected to extensive reshoots.
As of this writing, HBO has yet to announce a release date for The Idol.
