Attention Upper East Siders! HBO Max has finally released the first juicy trailer for Gossip Girl season two.

Premiering on 1 December, the new batch of episodes are set to pick after the explosive events of the season one finale – which saw Julian (Jordan Alexander) form an unlikely partnership with Gossip Girl, Monet (Savannah Lee Smith) initiating her plan to become queen of Constance Billard, and Max (Thomas Doherty) entering a throuple with Aki (Evan Mock) and Audrey (Emily Alyn Lind).

“It’s the second semester of Junior year, and Gossip Girl is leaving no stone unturned in her effort to control the scandalous lives of Manhattan’s elite,” reads the synopsis.

“She’s learned a thing or two from her first go-round – namely what her audience wants, they shall get. It’s time for her to turn the heat up on what’s been simmering.

“Old enemies, new allies, constantly shifting sands – this semester, there can only be one queen, and by the end of the school year, everyone will know where the bodies are buried, and just who was holding the shovel.”

In addition to shocking hookups, jaw-dropping betrayals and devastating breakups, the trailer also teased the return of original Gossip Girl star Michelle Trachtenberg as the infamous yet lovable villain, Georgina Sparks.

“Did you know that you have four weak points of entry and a very pliable super?” Georgia asks a shocked Kate Keller (Tavi Gevinson) after breaking into her apartment.

Gossip Girl season two will also see the return of Whitney Peak as Zoya, Eli Brown as Obie, Zíon Moreno as Luna, Jonathan Fernandez as Nick, Adam Chanler-Berat as Jordan, and Laura Benanti as Kiki.

In an interview with Teen Vogue, showrunner and producer Josh Safran gave further insight into what fans can expect from the forthcoming season.

“If people didn’t finish the first season or for some reason want a vibe that’s more reminiscent of the original, it’s definitely there [in season 2]. It really is bigger, faster, meaner, funnier,” he revealed.

“One of my favourite episodes of the first version is New Haven Can Wait, where they all go on college tours. We can’t do college tours yet because that’s not the age of these characters, but what we did do was an episode away [where] they go to the Hamptons but in the off-season, and that’s very fun.

“There’s a debutante ball. There’s a lot of things that echo the original in fun ways that we get to play off of.”
