Heartstopper star Joe Locke has shared new details about the highly anticipated series Agatha: Darkhold Diaries.
The show is set to follow the adventures of spellcaster Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) – who was last seen trapped in Westview after the events of 2021’s WandaVision.
In addition to Hahn, the ensemble cast includes Aubrey Plaza, Patti LuPone, David Payton, Asif Ali, Amos Glick, Kate Forbes, Brian Brightman, Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, Sasheer Zamata, Miles Gutierrez-Riley and Okwui Okpokwasili.
Additionally, Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum Emma Caulfield Ford returns as Sarah Proctor/Dottie Jones and That’ 70s/’90s Show star Debra Jo Rupp as Sharon Davis.
Since its announcement, MCU fans have patiently waited for new information regarding the show, including details regarding Locke’s mysterious role.
Fortunately, the rising talent spilt a little bit of tea on the Marvel project and his character in a recent interview with Hunger Magazine.
“It’s a very cool part. I resonated a lot with it and I loved WandaVision,” he said.
The beloved actor went on to describe Agatha: Darkhold Diaries as a “very important show” that steps away from the usual superhero mould.
“Agatha is a very special and different Marvel project. I’m very proud of it, and I think it’s going to be really f***ing good,” he said.
“I think it’s really important and amazing that Marvel isn’t shying away from telling stories about people that don’t necessarily fit the superhero norm.”
While Marvel has yet to confirm the specifics of Locke’s role, fans have speculated that he has been cast as the iconic gay superhero, Wiccan – who also happens to be the son of the Scarlet Witch and Vision.
However in April, LuPone threw MCU enthusiasts for a loop when she claimed that the 19-year-old star would be playing a “familiar”.
She also gave insight into her character, Lilia Calderu, who she described as a “450-year-old Sicilian witch whose power is divination and whose trial is tarot.”
A few months after LuPone’s interview, Locke shared his thoughts on the Broadway star’s comments in a sit down with Entertainment Weekly.
“She didn’t have any filter because she’s Patti LuPone. She’s incredible, and I love her so much, but I remember we were all on set watching the interview, and we were like, ‘No! Patti, stop talking! Stop talking!'” he revealed.
“It was a ripple effect. Everyone was like, ‘Have you seen Patti’s interview?!'”
While Agatha: Darkhold Diaries was initially set to drop in late 2023, it’s now slated to release in fall 2024 as part of Phase Five of the MCU.
