Manu Ríos fans rejoice! The young talent is set to return to our TV screens in a new Netflix series.
Since making his debut on the fourth season of the beloved teem drama Élite, the 24-year-old actor has captivated viewers with his portrayal of openly queer student Patrick Blanco.
While Ríos’ character quickly became a fan favourite, the young talent announced his exit from the series after its sixth season was released.
“I believe that everything that begins has its end. As an actor, you want to do different things,” he revealed to Fotogramas in 2022.
“Although Elite has been an incredible experience, and I am very grateful for everything it has brought, there are also times when it is necessary to move on from that stage, change the page, and do other things.”
Fortunately, Rios is teaming backing up with the creator of Élite, Carlos Montero, for his new Netflix medical drama series Respira.
According to El Español, the show is set to follow Biel, one of the residents of a public hospital in Valencia, Spain, as he navigates various patients, long hours, romantic connections and an impending hospital strike.
In addition to Ríos, the series will be led by Najwa Nimri, Aitana Sánchez Gijón, Blanca Suárez, Borja Luna, Ana Rayo, and Alfonso Bassave.
In an interview with the aforementioned publication, Montero gave further insight into the series and what fans can expect.
“With Respira we want to recover the great hospital dramas but with a fiercely contemporary look that we will push to the limit,” he explained.
“We believe that this is the perfect moment to defend the almost heroic work of our [doctors], to tell about their dedication, their frustrations, their joys, and to know that despite everything, they continue to watch over us. Even if they have to go on strike without precedents.”
In a separate post on Instagram, Montero revealed that filming for the new series will begin very soon.
The news of Ríos joining Respira comes a few weeks after his latest Netflix show, Muted, premiered on the platform.
Written, created and produced by Spanish screenwriter and producer Aitor Gabilondo, the limited series featured the young talent joining forces with his Elite co-star Arón Piper.
