Netflix’s hit LGBTQ+ series Heartstopper has earned nine Children’s & Family Emmy nominations.
Over the last few months, queer TV enthusiasts have immersed themselves in the heartwarming young adult series.
The show, which is based on Alice Oseman’s graphic novel of the same name, follows Charlie Spring (Joe Locke), a “high-strung, openly gay over-thinker,” and Nick Nelson (Kit Connor), “a cheerful, soft-hearted rugby player”, as they explore their blossoming romantic relationship.
Upon its release in March, the series earned rave reviews from fans and critics – with viewers watching 23,940,000 hours of the show during its first full week on the platform.
Locke and Connor were also lauded for their heartfelt performances – which resulted in them landing nominations at the coveted National Television Awards.
Now it looks like the beloved show and its stars are being recognised with another batch of prestigious nominations.
At the start of November, the National Academy of Television Arts and Science announced that Heartstopper earned nine Children’s & Family Emmy nominations – including Outstanding Young Teen Series and Outstanding Writing for A Young Teen Program.
Locke, Connor, Yasmin Finney, and William Gao also earned nominations for Lead Performance and Supporting Performance, respectively.

Lastly, The Crown star Olivia Coleman, who played Nick’s mother, nabbed a nomination for Guest Performance.
Shortly after the news was announced, an array of the show’s stars and crew took to social media to express their excitement over the Emmy recognition.
“9 Emmy noms! And the whole Heartstopper team was lucky enough to be on set together for it. Couldn’t be prouder of Kit and Joe, especially today,” said the show’s executive producer Patrick Walters.
Finney echoed similar sentiments, writing: “What An Honour.”
Heartstopper’s recent Emmy nominations come a few weeks after the series began production on its highly anticipated second season.
Picking up where season one left off, the new batch of episodes are set to follow Nick and Charlie as they navigate new facets of their relationship. The upcoming release will also feature the graphic novel’s popular Paris storyline.
Several new characters will be introduced in season two – including Sahar Zahid (Leila Khan), Stephane (Thibault De Montalembert), Naomi (Bel Priestley), Felix (Ash Self), David Nelson (Jack Barton) and Mr Farouk (Nima Taleghani).
The first annual Children’s & Family Emmy ceremony is set to take place on 11 December.
