Supergirl’s Nicole Maines and Midnight, Texas star François Arnaud have joined the second season of Showtime’s Yellowjackets.
According to Variety, the openly trans actress will be portraying an associate of Adult Lottie (Simone Kissel), whose also trying to recover from her past trauma.
In addition to Maines, bisexual actor Arnaud and Bel Air star Nia Sondaya have joined the series as Coach Scott’s (Steven Kreuger) secret boyfriend Paul and Teen Alikah, respectively.
Shortly after the news made headlines, Maines took to Instagram to celebrate her casting: “Buzz Buzz Buzz. So excited to get to share that I’ve joined @shoyellowjackets! Cannot wait for you all to meet Lisa.”
Arnaud echoed similar sentiments in his own post, writing: “Such a great cast. Such a fun show.”
The casting news comes a month after Showtime renewed the beloved series for a third season ahead of season two’s March premiere.
“With ‘Yellowjackets” runaway success in Season 1 and the pent-up anticipation for Season 2, we wanted to maximize the momentum by fast-tracking Season 3 now,” said Chris McCarthy, Showtime and Paramount Media’s CEO and President (per The Hollywood Reporter).
“The show’s ambition is only exceeded by its execution, and I thank the incredible creative team behind it, including Ashley, Bart, Jonathan, eOne and the Showtime team, for turning this into such a success.”
Back in 2021, the thriller drama made massive waves in the pop culture sphere with its first batch of episodes.
The series, which stars Jasmin Savoy Brown, Christina Ricci, Tawny Cypress and Live Hewson, follows a New Jersey girl’s soccer team who travel to Seattle to compete in a national tournament.
However, their plane crashes into the wilderness while flying over Canada, forcing the teen girls to fight for survival. The show also includes a time jump that chronicles the survivors as adults navigating their trauma and secrets.
Melanie Lynsky, Sophie Nélisse, Ella Purnell, Warren Kole, Sammi Hanratty, Juliette Lewis, and Sophie Thatcher also star in the survival series.
Following its release, Yellowjackets earned critical acclaim for critics for its immersive storytelling and horror elements.
Fans have also lauded the series for its LGBTQ+ representation – specifically regarding the relationship between characters Taissa Turner (Brown and Cypress) and Vanessa “Van” Palmer (Hewson).
The second season of Yellowjackets is set to air on Showtime on 26 March.
