The first official trailer for Yellowjackets season two has arrived.
On 13 January, Showtime finally gave fans a sneak peek into the sure-to-be jaw-dropping second season of the hit psychological drama.
At the start of the trailer, an Adult Lottie (Simone Kessell) – who’s a leader of a mysterious cult – asks Adult Natalie (Juliette Lewis) to allow herself to go back “no matter how difficult it gets” and describe what she sees.
In response, Natalie states: “Darkness. We brought it back with us.”
As the teaser progresses, tense scenes featuring both the adult and teen versions of the characters flash across the screen.
At the end of the trailer, Lord of The Rings star Elijah Wood makes his debut as citizen detective Walter.
“Kidnapping, cults, death, your friendships are a little more complicated than most,” he says to Christina Ricci’s Misty.
Shortly after the trailer was released, fans flocked to social media to express their excitement for the forthcoming batch of episodes.
One person wrote: “Just saw the trailer for Yellow Jackets Season 2…oh yeah baby, can’t wait!”
Another person tweeted: “Sees Yellowjackets season 2 trailer, spends entire Saturday morning reading about Yellowjackets theories.”
The second season of Yellowjackets will see the return of Melanie Lynskey, Sophie Nélisse, Tawny Cypress, Jasmine Savoy Brown, Steven Krueger, Warren Kole, Sammi Hanratty, Sophie Thatcher, and Liv Hewson, in addition to Lewis and Ricci.
In an interview with Deadline, the show’s creators, Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, teased that the upcoming season would be “darker and weirder.”
“When we first pitched the show, we said we wanted to make a show about the best and the worst that people are capable of. Ultimately, whenever you’re telling stories, you’re really trying to examine and, to some extent, interrogate yourself,” Lyle revealed.
“There are a lot of opportunities where we’re going and where we’ve been planning to get darker and get weirder. We’ll likely get a lot more of both of those things.”
Nickerson echoed similar sentiments stating that the show would grow in different directions.
“I do think it would be a good bet to say the show will grow in all the directions that Ashley was pointing to,” he told the news outlet.
“I also know that that is not necessarily the point or the driver of kind of that expansion as much as it is being prepared to go where the show takes us.”
Back in 2021, the thriller drama made massive waves in the pop culture sphere with its first batch of episodes
Switching between 1996 and 2021, the first season follows a New Jersey girl’s soccer team who travels to Seattle to compete in a national tournament.
However, their plane crashes into the wilderness while flying over Canada, forcing the teen girls to fight for survival.
Following its release, Yellowjackets earned critical acclaim from critics for its immersive storytelling and horror elements.
Fans also lauded the series for its LGBTQ+ representation – specifically regarding the relationship between characters Taissa Turner (Brown and Cypress) and Vanessa “Van” Palmer (Hewson).
The second season of Yellowjackets is set to air on Showtime on 26 March.
