Maya Hawke has shared her opinion on whether her Stranger Things character should get a girlfriend in season five.
Since the popular 80s-centric sci-fi show released its third entry, Hawke has made waves with LGBTQ+ viewers for her portrayal of Robin Buckley.
At the beginning of season three, the sarcastic teenager was teased as a potential love interest for Steve Harrington (Joe Keery), who worked with her at the ice cream parlour.
After admitting to Steve that she was obsessed with him, Robin later clarified her statement and revealed that she had a crush on one of his female admirers.
The emotive reveal was a hit amongst fans, with many praising the Duffer Brothers for introducing an openly queer character.
Following her debut, Robin has continued to gain popularity amongst LGBTQ+ viewers, with some fans calling for the character to get a girlfriend.
While season four of the series featured Robin developing a crush on her Hawkins High classmate Vickie (Amybeth McNulty), their connection was left up in the air due to the Upside Down merging with the city.
In a recent interview with Yahoo Entertainment, Hawke shared her thoughts on Robin potentially getting a love interest in season five, and it’s not looking too hopeful.
“I don’t know. I feel mixed about it. I feel that it’s both a great thing, but I also love characters where their love life is not the center of their existence,” she explained.

Hawke went on to express her hopes that Robin’s close friendship with Steve continues to get explored in the show’s final season.
“That friendship with Steve is so special. And friendships have been carrying me through my life. I think they’re really important, and they deserve their airtime,” she said.
Hawke’s recent interview comes a few months after she opened up to Rolling Stone about her hopes for Robin in season five.
“I would love to die and get my hero’s moment. I’d love to die with honour, as any actor would. But I love the way that the Duffer Brothers love their actors,” she explained.
“The reason that they write so beautifully for me and for everyone else is because they fall in love with their actors and their characters, and they don’t want to kill them.
“I think that’s a beautiful quality that they have, and I wouldn’t wish it away.”
Unfortunately, fans will have to wait a little longer to see if Robin gets a girlfriend in season five.
Back in May, the Duffer Brothers announced that production on the new batch of episodes were put on hold due to the ongoing WGA strike.
“Duffers here. Writing does not stop when filming begins. While we’re excited to start production with our amazing cast and crew, it is not possible during this strike,” the Duffer Brothers revealed in a tweet.
“We hope a fair deal is reached soon so we can all get back to work. Until then — over and out.”
