The Sandman fans rejoice! The beloved Netflix series has been renewed for a second season.

Back in August, the fantasy drama premiered on the popular streamer to critical acclaim.

Based on the Neil Gaiman comic of the same name, the series follows Morpheus (Tom Sturridge), one of the seven Endless and the personification of dreams.

After being released from a 106-year-long imprisonment, Morpheus sets out on a tumultuous adventure to rebuild his realm, The Dreaming, and figure out who was responsible for his capture.

While the show has been praised for accurately adapting the comic book, fans have also lauded the series for its inclusion of LGBTQ+ characters – including Desire (Mason Alexander Park), Johanna Constantine (Jenna Coleman) and Alex Burgess (Laurie Kynaston).

After months of silence, Netflix finally revealed that Morpheus and company would officially return for a second season.

Shortly after the news made headlines, Gaiman opened up about the exciting renewal in an official statement.

“Millions upon millions of people have welcomed and watched and loved ‘The Sandman’ on Netflix, from established Sandman fans to people who were simply curious, and then became obsessed with the Lord of Dreams, his family and their goings-on,” he said (per Variety).

“It gives me unbelievable pleasure to say that, working with Netflix and Warner Bros., Allan Heinberg, David Goyer, and I will be bringing even more of ‘The Sandman’ stories to life.”

Towards the end of his statement, Gaiman praised the cast and even gave a little sneak peek at what’s to come for season two.

“There are some astonishing stories waiting for Morpheus and the rest of them (not to mention more members of the Endless Family to meet). Nobody is going to be happier about this than the Sandman cast and crew: they are the biggest Sandman fans there are,” he said.

“And now it’s time to get back to work. There’s a family meal ahead, after all. And Lucifer is waiting for Morpheus to return to Hell…”

Prior to Netflix’s official renewal announcement, DC Comics uploaded a now-deleted tweet that seemingly confirmed the news.

“The dream continues [The Sandman] will return with new episodes based on multiple volumes of the Neil Gaiman graphic novel to explore even more stories of the endless,” they wrote (per Deadline).

We’re counting down the days till Morpheus and his siblings are back on our screens.
