Luke Evans and Callum Scott Howells have signed on to star in the upcoming BBC drama The Way.
Described as “ambitious, powerful and surprising,” the three-part project is set to follow the Driscoll family as they are “forced to escape the country they’ve always called home and the certainties of their own lives.”
“Will they be overwhelmed by their memories of the past, or will they lay their ghosts to rest and take the risk of an unknown future?” the show’s synopsis reads.
Howells (It’s a Sin), Steffan Rhodri (Gavin and Stacey), Mali Harries (Hinterland), Sophie Melville (The Pact), and Micheal Sheen (Good Omens) have been cast as members of the Driscoll family.
Evans is set to take on a seemingly villainous role in the series as Hogwood, the ruthless mercenary who’s in pursuit of the Driscoll family.
Maja Laskowska (Baptiste), Tom Cullen (Weekend), Danny Sapani (Killing Eve), Mark Lewis Jones (Outlander), Paul Rhys (Discovery of Witches), Erin Richards (Gotham), Aneurin Barnard (1899), Catherine Ayers (Keeping Faith), Jonathan Nefydd (Grav), Matthew Aubrey (Keeping Faith), Teilo James Le Masurier and Andria Doherty (It’s a Sin) will also appear in the upcoming mini-series in “key roles.”
Lastly, Sheen is set to perform double duty as one of the show’s lead cast members and its director.

“I feel very lucky to get to work every day with these phenomenal actors. We’ve always had so much acting talent here in Wales, and I’m very grateful to have the opportunity to tell this extraordinary story with the very best at work today,” Sheen told the BBC in a statement,
While The Way is currently in production, Sheen’s directing skills have already been lauded by some of the show’s star-studded cast members, including Evans.
“It’s Michael Sheen’s first directing job. You’d never think it,” the Beauty & the Beast star revealed during his recent appearance at the Wales Screen Summit (per The Independent).
“You look at the picture board in your trailer and think, how has he managed to get all these people in this Welsh story? Because he’s Michael Sheen.
“As a director, he’s great, because he’s an actor. He understands how to speak to an actor. He knows what he needs and how to get it out of you.”
Howells echoed similar sentiments on Twitter, writing: “Feeling v v v proud to be a part of this – having the best time filming yng nghymruuuu.”
As of this writing, a release date for The Way – which is set to air on BBC and iPlayer – has yet to be announced.
