Emmy winner Zendaya has opened up about what she wants to see in Euphoria season 3.
Since 2019, the HBO teen drama has earned universal acclaim for its gritty storytelling and representation of the modern LGBTQ+ experience.
After a two and half year hiatus – which was due to the COVID-19 pandemic – Rue Bennett (Zendaya) and company returned to our screens for the highly anticipated second season.
Throughout the eight episodes, viewers dived further into Rue’s dangerous drug addiction and were introduced to new interweaving storylines following Jules (Hunter Schafer), Cassie (Sydney Sweeney), Nate (Jacob Elordi), Lexie (Maude Apatow), Maddie (Alexa Demie) and Kat (Barbie Ferreira).
With the dark coming of age series officially renewed for season 3, fans have been eager to find out any information regarding the forthcoming release.
In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Zendaya opened up about her character Rue and the storylines she wants to explore in the third season.
“I think it’ll be exciting to explore the characters out of high school. I want to see what Rue looks like in her sobriety journey, how chaotic that might look,” she revealed.
“But also with all the characters, in the sense where they’re trying to figure out what to do with their lives when high school is over and what kind of people they want to be.

“What was special about this season was that we got to dive into [the other characters] in a much deeper sense. I think we can do that again with the third season. There’s so much talent, you want to make sure everybody has the chance to have that.”
Elsewhere in the interview, the Dune star opened up about Rue’s character growth and revealed that the season 2 finale was meant to end differently.
“…We had conversations about Rue, and it’s changed a million times. I’ve talked about how the ending of the season was supposed to be very different,” she explained.
Zendaya went on to say that after filming half of episode 5 – which featured Rue’s violent meltdown – she and Levinson reworked Rue’s season trajectory to include a positive ending.
“We both felt that what we needed – what we felt a lot of people in the world needed, or at least anybody who relates to Rue – was a hopeful ending,” she explained.
“We need something positive to hold on to in this Euphoria universe. and it was important to find way back to love and forgiveness and friendship and end the season with this hopeful note of her finally being ready to embark on her sobriety journey… that was a major change, and that happened midway through the season.”
Euphoria season 3 is expected to premiere sometime in 2024.
