From the lush greenery draping the walls in the lobby reception, you would never have guessed that you were in Times Square in NYC from the moment you step through the door.

The iconic EDITION entrance with its green golden orb draws you into the elevator lobby and whisks you up high above Times Square to the main reception area. A sense of calm greets you as you check in for your stay with dark colours and moody lighting – almost like a lullaby singing you to sleep.

The Lobby Bar is a mixture of classic EDITION black wooden panelling and white sofas which makes for a moody, dark luxurious atmosphere. We were greeted by the assistant general manager who promptly popped a bottle of champagne at the bar for our arrival which in the style of all EDITION hotels seems to say: you’ve made it, welcome to the good life. The terrace is not to be missed, we recommend a cocktail at dusk to watch the incredible sunset across the New York City skyline.

For travellers looking for an experience akin to dining in paradise, the Terrace and Outdoor Gardens curated by Chef John Fraser offers just that. The flora and fauna combined with draping white curtains and white accents throughout is sure to transport you far away from the sometimes loud raucous that is NYC, only the flashing of the billboards through the drapes on the windows makes you realise that you are still in Times Square.

In actuality, the flashes from the billboards almost look like thunder only increasing the feelings of safety and lusciousness in this indoor rainforest that Ian Schraeger’s created in NY’s infamous tourism district.

The TSE rooms are fitted with EDITION classic white linen sheets and Ian Schraegger’s infamous throw which make for an incredibly comfortable stay in the hard and noisy surroundings of Times Square. Our favourite room was by far the Loft Suite with floor to ceiling windows offering incomparable views of Times Square. If you fancy splurging though, a stay in the Penthouse may be exactly what you need, offering views of Times Square and the midtown skyline. Be sure to approach this with caution because you may never be the same again.

One of our favourite things was the fitness centre which overlooks the streets below and gives you a panoramic view of the billboards in the surrounding area. It made for an incredibly stimulating place to work out and go for a run before you start your day in NYC.

GT recommends TSE for fun weekends with friends who want to stay in the heart of it all and want to immerse themselves in the true NYC experience.
